I thought it might be helpful to make a list of the general rules that roleplayers generally live by. These are ones that are often standard within forum roleplaying, but they can work for most types of roleplaying.
Rule 1: No God-modding
God-modding is essentially where someone makes their character like a god. There are multiple types of offenses that fit into the category.
- Invincibility: Don't make your character immune to any kind of attack, such as being able to take hits without receiving any injuries. Have them get hurt every now and then
- Dodging Everything: Don't make your character be able to dodge every attack aimed at them. Sure, they can dodged some of them, but every now and then let them get hit.
- Meta-Gaming: Don't allow your character to have knowledge they wouldn't have access to. Just because you know something doesn't mean your character would know it too.
- Auto-hitting: Don't have an attack made by your character automatically hit another person's character, at least not without their permission. Allow them to decide what happens to their own character when attacked.
- Controlling People's Characters: This goes along with auto-hitting. Don't control other people's characters without their permission. The owner of a character deserves the right to decide what their own character does, and what happens to them.
Rule 2: Respect Your Fellow Roleplayers
You should always be respectful of your fellow roleplayers.
- You and Your Character are Different: Characters are allowed to be whatever a person wants them to be. They can be nice, belligerent, adversarial, or even a total ass. However, you the roleplayer cannot. For anything OOC related you should always remain respectful of other roleplayers.
That's all I got for now, but if any of you have any ideas for the list, let me know.
